January 3, 2021

According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH), the number of identified cases of coronavirus in Woods County has now reached 1,001. Of that total, 791 have recovered and five have died. On Jan. 1, the county had 205 active cases.

The OSDH reports have been delayed by the New Year’s holiday so numbers reported Saturday were actually from what would have been reported Jan. 1. They plan to catch up on Sunday by posting the Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 numbers.

In Woods County, the highest number of active cases is in Alva with 142 as of Jan. 1. The five deaths in the county are also in Alva. Waynoka has the second highest number with 41 active cases while Dacoma has eight and Freedom 7. Bill Johnson Correctional Center in Alva currently lists no active inmate cases.

In Alfalfa County, 936 cases have been identified so far with four deaths and 856 recovered for a total of 76 active cases. Cherokee has the highest number of active cases with 38 followed by Helena with 31. Carmen has nine, Aline five, Jet four and Goltry two. Burlington shows no active cases. Of the four deaths in Alfalfa County, two are from Helena, one from Cherokee and one from Aline. James Crabtree Correctional Center in Helena has been removed from “hot spot” status with ten inmates reported as having active cases.

This week, 76 Oklahoma counties are in the “orange" and one county in the "yellow" risk level for the Covid-19 Risk Level System. OSDH continues to monitor closely the statewide hospitalization trends for Covid-19.

The Covid-19 Risk Level System will be updated every Friday in the Situation Update at 11 a.m.

As OSDH continues to meet with stakeholders across the state, the Covid-19 Alert Map is subject to further revisions as science and public health guidance advances with the ongoing pandemic.

As of this advisory, there are 296,055 cases of Covid-19 in Oklahoma.

Seventy-seven percent of the new cases had a specimen collection date after Christmas; 87% had a specimen collection date within the past two weeks.

Today's 7-day rolling average for the number of new cases reported is 2,792.

There are 38 additional deaths identified to report with 12 of those in Tulsa County. There are 2,527 total deaths in the state.

The number of active cases in the state as of Jan. 1 was 33,687.

As of Dec. 31, 2020, 1,750 people were hospitalized with the coronavirus.
