Two men were fatality injured in an ATV wreck in Major County on Thursday. The crash occurred at 1:45 a.m. on County Road 45 one-tenth mile west of County Road 266. The location is 1.1 miles west and 2.2 miles north of Ringwood. Isaac John Schmidt, 29, of Ringwood, was driving the 2015 Can-Am ATV east on County Road 45 at a high rate of speed, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. Schmidt lost control of the ATV, departing the roadway to the left into the north ditch, overturning into the south ditch, and rolling one time before striking a tree.

Jason Michael Dunlap, 29, of Hominy, was a passenger on the ATV. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene from head, internal trunk, external trunk, arms and leg injuries by M.E. Investigator Kathy Valentine.

The condition of the driver is under investigation, and the cause of the collision is listed as unsafe speed. No helmets were in use.

Trooper Linda Hartley investigated, assisted by Trooper James Armstrong. Assisting were the Major County Sheriff’s Office, Major County Fire and Major County EMS.
