Two more physicians coming to Alva

March 26, 2021

Alva will soon have two more medical doctors. Share Medical Center CEO Kandice Allen said Tuesday she’s working with Scott Burk, MD, an internist, and his wife Chris Burk, MD, a pediatrician, to relocate to Alva. The Burks are currently in Montana. The names may be familiar as they had a practice in Alva several years ago.

The terms of the Burks’ contracts were not finalized during Tuesday’s Alva Hospital Authority (AHA) meeting due to an error in the posted agenda. AHA attorney Rick Cunningham told the trustees they could not enter into an executive session because the state statute (section 25 O.S., 307 B.1) authorizing it was not included in the agenda.

Instead, Allen openly discussed the intent of the Burks to move to Alva. She said Scott will work four ten-hour days per week while Chris will work three ten-hour days per week. It’s expected to take longer for Chris Burk’s pediatric practice to develop.

When asked where the Burks would open their practice, Allen said, “I think I have a plan, but the city has to approve it.” She’s working on a location downtown in the Professional Building which is owned by the city.

Share Medical is also expanding to outreach clinics in other towns, and they may be involved.

Since the contract could not be finalized without an executive session, a special meeting of the Alva Hospital Authority has been set for that purpose today, March 26, at noon. After returning to open session, the trustees will discuss and vote on each of the contracts.
