Let's read the Bible

Week 17

April 30, 2021

Paul’s letters were written to encourage first century Christians and to solve problems in new churches. This week we will read Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, I and II Thessalonians, I and II Timothy, Titus, and Philemon. These are all pretty short, but about the same number of pages as past readings.

Each of these letters begins with a greeting of grace and peace, and thanksgiving for these Christians. He was always concerned for their welfare both physically and spiritually, always teaching and encouraging. His words encourage us today. He was so thankful for all those individuals who were caring for him in prison, and serving with him in Christ. He made sure they knew they were appreciated.

“Rejoice in the Lord.” “One thing I do, I press on to the goal.” “I have learned to be content.” “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” “Set your mind on things above.”

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.” If we all followed this advice, it would change our lives and change our world.
