Grow and Share OHCE regular meeting

 


Grow and Share OHCE met for its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on May 6 at the home of Janet Cunningham. The group met for a cookout on the back patio in celebration of OHCE Week. Jean Moore and Colleen Myers served as hostesses and Cheryl Diefenbach provided the hot dogs and hamburgers. All other attending brought side dishes to complete the meal. President Janet Cunningham called the meeting to order. She and other members congratulated Mary Hamilton on Alva's Market being chosen as Business of the Year by the Alva Chamber of Commerce the evening before. All present recited the flag salute. The hostesses gave a devotional from Isaiah 46:4 about growing older and God always being there. Eleven members present answered roll call to: "Do you believe self-care if important and why?" Minutes for the April meeting were read and approved. Jean gave the treasurer's report.

Cunningham covered several items from the OHCE Newsletter.

Under the Cultural Enrichment Committee, Cunningham reported that the challenge for county OHCE members to write their own Covid stories had been again issued at Spring Council.

There was no unfinished business.

New business included a report from several members on the Spring Council Meeting held on May 3. Grow and Share had five members who attended. The group also discussed the possibility of a canning workshop to be held in conjunction with the June meeting.

Volunteers were encouraged to attend the next leader's lesson on "Nurturing Your Emotional Health" on April 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Courthouse Conference Room. There is also a workshop scheduled on April 17 at the Alfalfa County Fairgrounds on Breakfast and Brunch Ideas, Crepes and Scone Making 101. May 3 will be Woods County Spring Council.

Carol McDaniel gave the lesson on "Nurturing Your Mental Health." She covered the characteristics of a person who is mentally healthy. The also gave the 6 keys to follow to good mental health. Janet gave an informative mini-lesson on the different flowers and plants found in her backyard. Secret pal gifts were exchanged.

The meeting adjourned to the June regular meeting with the place, time and date to be determined.
