Kiowa's Labor Day 5K returns this year

One of the most loved activities of Kiowa's Labor Day weekend is the 5K Race at 8 a.m. Monday morning. It is a time when family and friends have a little friendly competition. It's also a time for serious runners to see if they can win the race on their road to tougher challenges. Maybe you're just pushing your baby stroller and visiting with your friends. Whatever the reason, hundreds if not thousands have run Kiowa's 5K the last 35 years.

The Covid pandemic caused cancellation of the event last year, but it's back this year. It happens on Labor Day. Monday, Sept. 16. It's the 36th Kiowa Labor Day 5K Race. Longtime runner Kent McBrayer started the race that has always been sponsored by the First State Bank of Kiowa, Kan., now a branch of the Alva State Bank. Now McBrayer has the assistance of Melissa Rector, Melissa Simpson and Judy Schrock. They invite you to start planning today to be a part of the 5K and a piece of Kiowa tradition.

Registration forms can be found at local businesses in Kiowa or on the website
