Grow and Share OHCE learns about world spices

Grow and Share OHCE met for their regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Oct. 19 in the home of Cheryl Diefenbach with Cheryl serving as hostess. President Janet Cunningham called the meeting to order with all present reciting the flag salute. Six members answered roll call to “Do you like your food spicy?” One guest, Riecyn Jones, was also in attendance. Minutes for the September meeting were read and approved as read. Jean gave the treasurer's report, reminded members who are donating their fair check back to the club to write 'for deposit only' on the back and will also will be turning in donations of $20 each for Pennies for Friendship and la Preciosita to the county.

A thank you from Amanda Jones for a gift certificate to Alva's Market was passed around for members to read.

For the Cultural Enrichment Committee report, Janet reported that no new Covid written or oral histories have been received. Mary also reported that the Nescatunga Arts Festival will be postponed to spring.

Unfinished business included discussion of dues and membership forms. Janet reported that the officer slate has been turned into the county office. Cheryl thanked all members who contributed food to the Assembly of God revival.

Under new business, the group discussed the November meeting. This meeting is traditionally a potluck Thanksgiving meal and the group decided it will be held on Nov. 10 at Janet's house. Members signed up for items to bring and members not in attendance will be asked to fill in with vegetable and dessert dishes. The group also discussed a tentative date of Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. for the December meeting. Discussion on new guidelines for Secret Pal exchanges occurred. Members will vote on any changes at the November meeting.

Members were reminded of a workshop on Holiday Happenings in Major County on Nov. 4. that Jean and Amanda planned to attend.

Carol McDaniel presented the lesson entitled “Spices from Around the World.” She mentioned several well-known and lesser-known spices and dishes they could be used in. Secret Pal gifts were exchanged and Cheryl served refreshments.

The meeting adjourned to the November regular meeting to be held on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in the home of Janet Cunningham with Janet serving as hostess.
