Young volunteers clean Bud Rose Park

January 30, 2022

Bud Rose Park is looking a lot better now. The park is located between Park and Meno Streets in the east part of Alva and just north of the City of Alva Public Works Department.

A deep grassy ravine runs north and south through the center of the park. It doesn’t have as many play structures and amenities as the much larger Hatfield Park on the west side of Alva, but it’s a popular spot for youngsters who live in the neighborhood.

Recently, a fifth grader who lives nearby noticed that the park had become a collection spot for trash. Careless littering and the force of Oklahoma winds caused refuse to accumulate. Micah Venosdel decided something should be done about it.

Micah enlisted the aid of five friends and classmates to clean up the park. Micah’s father Wyatt says the group worked about an hour and filled three large carpenter-size trash bags. For their efforts, the youngsters have a nicer place to play.

Wyatt Venosdel is justly proud of his son for coming up with the idea and recruiting his friends to help, all on his own.
