Lady Rangers extend home win streak to six games

ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Lady Rangers extended their home winning streak to six games by beating Arkansas-Monticello Blossoms 97-49. The Rangers would go on a 17-0 run in the first quarter and a 21-0 run before the half to take full control of the game and seal their victory Thursday.

The Lady Rangers eclipsed their season-high for points in a conference game with 97. The previous high was 84 against Henderson State earlier this year. The Lady Rangers advance their conference record to 7-6 with a 11-8 overall record. Monticello continues their losing streak 0-19 on the season and 0-13 in conference.

Bailey Brown led the team in points with 28 followed by Scout Frame with 18. Brown also led the team with rebounds at 9 followed by S.Frame and Jill Ingram with 6. Carly Craig led the team with 8 assists as the team finished with 26 assists as there were nine total players with at least. Andi Pierce led the team with 4 steals.

First Quarter

Both teams struggled to score within the first minute of play. The Monticello Blossoms struck first with a three-pointer and lay up. Lady Ranger Scout Frame ended the 5-0 run with a freethrow and lay up. Kinsey Niederer and Bailey Brown both contributed with a three pointer each to put the Lady Rangers out in front 9-5 for their first lead of the game.

Niederer's three-point shot jumpstarted a 14-0 run for the Rangers. The Lady Blossoms ended the Ranger run with a layup.

With 30 seconds left in the quarter Andi Pierce sank a three-point shot, allowing the Lady Rangers to lead 22-7 in the first quarter. Brown led the team with nine points in the quarter. The Rangers shot 50% from the three point line and 53.3% from the field.

Second Quarter

The Blossoms responded in the second quarter by scoring first with a layup. Niederer quickly fired back with a three pointer though maintaining the double-digit lead. The teams battled point-for-point early in the quarter before a layup and two free throws by Brown jump-started another Lady Ranger run. Carly Craig contributed a three-point shot to the run. S. Frame extended the lead with a three-point play at the end of the quarter as they extended their run to 21-0 before the half ended.

The Lady Rangers went into the second half of play with a 39 point lead at 54-15.Brown led the Rangers with 19 points followed closely by S. Frame with 15. Brown shot 100% at the free throw line followed by S. Frame's 83%. Craig led the team in steals with 3 and in assists with 6.

Third Quarter

Both teams came out after half time strong. The Lady Blossoms scored first. Josena Frame quickly responded with a layup. The Blossoms fired off a three point shot but S. Frame fired right back with a three pointer as Northwestern maintained a 30 point lead. A steal and three-pointer by Brown furthered the Lady Ranger lead to 68-24, their largest lead to that point in the game. A three pointer by Niederer and a jump-shot by Pierce put the Rangers above the 70-point mark with two minutes remaining in the quarter. Off the bench, teammate Kes Reeves contributed a layup and Kynsey Dixon contributed two free throws. The Lady Blossoms made a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of the quarter, trailing 78-30.

Fourth Quarter

The Rangers started the last quarter with a different lineup. Carlie Badley scored first with a freethrow. Teammate Jill Ingram contributed with an offensive rebound and layup. The Lady Blossoms responded with back-to-back three pointers.

Camille Thomas added a layup and shortly after teammate Zoe Cornett contributed a three-pointer extending Northwestern's lead 88-42 with five minutes to go in the final quarter. Badley contributed another three pointer giving her 28 points on the evening.

The Lady Blossoms quickly responded with another three. Aubrey Ritter made a free throw with one minute remaining to end the game and seal the 97-49 victory over Arkansas Monticello.

The Northwestern Lady Rangers were looking to extend their home game winning streak Saturday against Southern Arkansas Muleriders.
