Mark McDaniel named this year's AHS commencement speaker

 


Former Alva High School graduate Mark McDaniel is this year's speaker for the 2022 Alva High School Commencement to be held on May 15 at 3 p.m. at the high school auditorium.

Mark McDaniel is senior counsel with Devon Energy in Oklahoma City, where he has worked since 2005. His practice focuses on energy litigation, transactions, acquisition and divestitures in Wyoming, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. McDaniel represents Devon on the American Petroleum Institute, Western Energy Alliance, and Independent Petroleum Association of America. He was selected for the Oklahoma Bar Association (OBA) Alma Wilson Award for OBA member who has made a significant contribution to improving the lives of Oklahoma children; Distinguished Goldbug in Philanthropy, Alva Goldbug Education Foundation; Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America; Oklahoma County Bar Association, Corporate Counsel Section Chair; Journal Record Leadership in Law Award; Oklahoma City Mineral Lawyers Society (President); and serves as a member of the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City. He graduated from Alva High School in 1982, the University of Oklahoma with a B.B.A. in Finance 1987, and J.D. in 1990.

After graduation McDaniel worked in private law practice in Oklahoma City. In 2011, Mark and Stacy McDaniel founded Cleats for Kids (C4K) and he serves as chairman of the board. C4K is a nonprofit that empowers kids to live healthier lifestyles and learn life lessons through sports by providing sports shoes and safe equipment to kids in need. C4K has distributed over 200,000 sports items and impacted over 140,000 kids. C4K now works with 230 school districts in 70 counties, and 70 partner organizations.

The McDaniels have three children: Cole, a second-year law student at the OU College of Law; Josh, a senior at OU graduating in May; and Meghan, a sophomore at OU. They have spent much of the last 15 years coaching then crisscrossing the state and region to watch their kids play football, basketball, and cross country. They attend St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
