A 10-year-old from Laverne received a head injury in a UTV accident Wednesday. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol withheld the names of the four juveniles involved in the wreck. The incident occurred at 9:03 p.m. on private property at 699 S. County Line Road behind the ag barn in the city limits of Laverne.

According to the OHP, the 2016 Polaris UTV was driven by a juvenile male, age 12, of Laverne. The UTV was traveling in a southeasterly direction and negotiating a left curve when the 10-year-old female passenger leaned against the passenger side door. The latch was unsecure and came open, causing the girl to fall from the vehicle striking the ground.

The injured girl was transported by private vehicle to Harper County Community Hospital in Buffalo and then transported by Air Evac to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was admitted for a head injury and listed in stable condition.

The driver and two other passengers, males ages 11 and 13, were not injured. Cause of accident is listed as defective equipment.

Trooper Derrick Stewart investigated, assisted by Harper County Sheriff’s Office.
