One writer’s new deal, part 3

In 1952 Borden Deal and Ethel “Babs” Hodges married and settled in Scottsboro, Alabama, which was her hometown. Eventually, the Deals had three children. Unfortunately, they divorced in 1975 after more than two decades together.
Both Borden and Babs were graduates of the creative writing program at the University of Alabama, and each embarked upon a career as a writer of fiction, both novels and short stories.
Each of them sold several short stories to popular magazines. Babs had stories in McCall’s and Redbook, for example, while Borden’s work was featured in the Saturday Evening Post, Collie...
