October 30, 2022

ALVA, Okla. – The Rangers soccer team clinched their second-ever GAC tournament berth with a 0-0 vs Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday evening. This moves the Rangers to 6-4-7 and the Bison to 6-7-4 on their respective seasons. Northwestern has now gone eight straight matches without a loss.

"We are incredibly proud of this team. Although all of the ties are certainly not ideal, we have established ourselves as a very difficult team to beat, and that is very important late in the season. To clinch a second consecutive tournament appearance means a lot to this program. I am very excited for the rest of the season because the team is hungry to compete and is not satisfied with just qualifying for the tournament," commented Head Coach Alex Piekarski.

The Ranger defense kept the Bison scoreless, maintaining yet another shutout for their seventh on the season. In the first half, the Rangers had four shots while the Bison had seven. Midfielder Callie Haneborg had three shots, Kailani Kealoha had two and Cynthia Armas had one. Unfortunately none of the shots were able to find the back of the net.

In the second half, the Rangers and Bison worked tirelessly against one another. The Rangers were able to find five more shots while the Bison attempted eight. Goal keeper Maggie Koster made ten saves during the entirety of the match to keep the Bison scoreless and her third shutout of the season.

The Rangers were to travel to Bethany on Saturday to face Southern Nazarene University for their last conference game of the season.
