One writer’s new deal, part 4

Borden Deal was not only a writer of quality fiction, he was also quite prolific. In addition to 21 novels, he published approximately 100 short stories in well-known magazines and literary journals.

He produced so much material that he almost always worked on a “minor” novel while also writing a “major” one. Four of his lesser novels were, in fact, published only in inexpensive paperback editions.

And for all of his statements rejecting the Southern Gothic school of literature, he wrote some stories that could qualify for that designation.

While he never wrote about a deranged grandma living...
