Cherokee man charged with second degree rape

February 19, 2023

Three felony counts against a Cherokee man have been dismissed and replaced with a new charge. On March 10, 2022, Phillip Logan Sharp, then age 20, of Cherokee, was charged in Woods County with child sexual abuse, possession of obscene material and violation of Oklahoma statute via computer. The charges involved a 15-year-old Alva girl. On Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, those charges were dismissed.

Now Sharp is charged with second degree rape, a felony. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for one to 15 years.

The investigation began when police responded to a disturbance at the girl’s home. The officer was told Sharp had last spent the night at the residence with the girl on Feb. 19, 2022. Later he attempted to enter the residence and was threatening physical violence against the girl, according to the girl’s mother. A cellphone belonging to Sharp was found on the ground near the front door, and the girl’s mother gave it to the police officer.
