Alva High School hires new head boys basketball coach

ALVA, Okla. – The Alva High School Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Joseph (JB) Kimberlin as the new head boys basketball coach of the Goldbugs. His hiring was approved by the board of education on Monday, May 1.

Coach Kimberlin is currently the head girls' basketball coach at Mountain View – Gotebo. He also serves as an assistant high school and middle school football coach, head cross country and track coach, and the head 3rd-6th boys and girls basketball coach. The girls' basketball program had only won three games in the two seasons prior to his arrival and have gone 10-10 and recently 22-8 this season, only missing the state tournament by one game.

During the past five summers, Kimberlin coached boys' basketball for the 3T program out of Weatherford. During that time, his team went to the MAYB National Tournament four times and competed against over 100 schools from across the nation.

In his development as a coach, Kimberlin has learned under mentors such as Rick Gore (Hydro-Eakly), Robert Duvall (Union City) and Wayne Anderson (former director of 3T; currently director of basketball operations at Oral Roberts University).

JB is married to his wife Billie Kimberlin. They have three sons. Skyler is a redshirt freshman on the men's basketball team at NWOSU; Aiden is a junior at Mountain View-Gotebo; and Jacob will turn two years old this June. Coach Kimberlin will teach in the alternative education program at Alva High School.

"My goal is to maintain and build upon the current winning culture. I not only want to coach young men in the game of basketball, but build relationships with my players. I want to prepare my players for life after high school through teaching life lesson they can take with them upon graduation," said Kimberlin.

"We believe that Coach Kimberlin is going to be an outstanding fit for the boys' basketball program as well as the entire athletic department," said Dave Foster, Alva High School athletic director. "We are excited for the transition to take place and know that the program is in great hands moving forward. Coach Kimberlin has already scheduled team camps and summer workouts which indicates his excitement to be a Goldbug?"

"I couldn't be more proud of Coach Kimberlin. Coach K is one of the hardest working young coaches in the business. Coach K has done nothing but make players, teams and communities better," said Wayne Anderson, director of basketball operations at Oral Roberts University. "Goldbug Nation, you hired a good one!"
