We are green. I don’t mean we are tree huggers even though farmers and ranchers are likely to be more green than those environmentalists. I am talking about our grass is green. Our weeds are green. Our topsoil is wet. Our attitudes are wet. Our cows are full and not chasing the feed trucks as they drive by on The Valley Road and it all changed so quickly.

We and so many like us were on the verge of selling our cow herds and trying to figure out what else to do to survive.

We all were counting hay bales and realizing we were going to run out soon. We were all cussing and discussing the price of...
