Having faith

Ramblings of a Redneck Farmer

I didn’t know if I was ever going to get this written this week. We were out of phone and internet service for three days this week because of a storm. You never know what you are addicted to until you don’t have it!

I’ve been thinking about faith a lot lately. I actually have been thinking about people who don’t have it a lot lately. They lack faith in themselves. They lack faith in others and most importantly they lack faith in our Lord and Savior. I often wonder how they even function.

Life is hard. Life is hard every day. If you don’t have yourself to fall back onto or your friends or family or Jesus Christ, how do you make it?

Our weekly Bible study/breakfast was this morning. I had missed the previous three. Work gets in the way of what is important sometimes. Sometimes you get in your own way of what is important. Sometimes you have vehicle problems. Yet, once back it felt like I hadn’t missed one.

I’m blessed. Occasionally, we need reminded just how God has blessed us.

So many people just endure life. While we all struggle from time to time, some people really struggle. Life will bring you down if you let it. I’m by no means a therapist and wouldn’t even start to claim I was one, but I do know what is important, most of the time anyway.

When I was a sales manager, I figured out what was important and how to make a sale. You had to know your product. You had to know your customer and you had to know yourself. If you master those three segments, you can sell ice to an Eskimo. You have to be passionate about something. People who have little faith in anything or anyone has a hard time being passionate about anything.

Understanding faith has a lot of the same traits. When you finally figure out who you are, you can rely on things and people and a Savior. If you do it right, those things end up being much bigger than you are.

When you realize you can count on your family it frees you. When you have friends who are there at a moment’s notice it frees you. When you have a Savior who forgives your sins with grace, mercy and love and then gives you eternal life? I’m going to say it again, it frees you.

Too many people are fighting battles. If you are lucky and they let you in, you may find out about their battles, but too many times they fight their battles alone for varying reasons.

I am certain, though, that one reason is that those people have little to no faith in anything. Whether it is a medical issue or a financial issue or an emotional issue, all people struggle from time to time. I am included in that. Yet, when I rest in the support of my friends and family, I can rest. When I rest in the arms of my Jesus, I can feel peace. When I remember I can do whatever I put my mind to, I feel better and generally get the job done. I have faith in myself, my friends and family and most importantly, I have faith in our Lord and Savior.

I know this is a different Ramblings than I usually write. In my current occupation, I run across people almost on a daily basis who, to me, seem to be struggling with something. It may just be with a drain that won’t run. It might be cancer they are struggling with. It might be that they are struggling with a lack of faith in God.

My prayer today is that when you see a person struggling, be that rock that they can latch onto.

Show some faith in them. Show the type of faith that lets them see what true faith is all about.

In Romans 10:17 Paul talks about faith. He says, “So faith comes from hearing and hearing through the word of Christ.” Faith in Christ is the most important faith you can have, but I will say this. Be the type of person who lets someone who is struggling see the faith in humanity.

Everyone have a blessed week and we will talk to you next week.
