Rail car cleanup ongoing by Kiowa

August 2, 2023

Newsgram readers might remember seeing a picture last week of these overturned rail cars on an abandoned track less than a mile south of Kiowa, Kansas.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Director of External Communications Kendall Kirkham Sloan commented on the incident. He confirmed that on July 17 high winds blew over 57 empty rail cars that were in storage in Kiowa. No one was injured. Crews are working to rerail the cars as cleanup is ongoing.

Cranes and other heavy equipment are on site. The wheels were put back on the track before the rail cars are secured on top.
