Memorial services for Elaine Schnebel will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Timothy Roggow officiating.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Elaine Osterloh, daughter of the late Emil and Laura (Popken) Osterloh, was born July 17, 1925, at Hooper, Nebraska, and passed away August 23, 2023, at Alva, at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 6 days.

She was raised in Hooper where she graduated Hooper High School in 1942, and then attended Midland College in Freemont, Nebraska, for the next two years. On July 2, 1944, she was united in marriage to William Schnebel. William served as a pilot for the Air Force from 1942 to 1946 during which time Elaine continued her education. After the war and while she and her husband were raising a family, she received her BA in education from the College of Emporia at Emporia, Kansas, and MA from Northwestern Oklahoma State College. Elaine taught English at the Alva Public Schools. She always enjoyed visiting with her past students. She and her husband were lifetime educators.

Elaine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Alva, PW and Evening Circle of the Presbyterian Church, OEA, NEA, Woods County Retired Teachers' Association, Chapter C PEO, Friends of the Library, serving on the Alva Library Board and the Library Foundation, and various bridge clubs. She loved to read, play bridge and travel with her family and friends. She and her husband spent many years of their retirement traveling to all parts of the United States and Europe.

Besides her parents, Emil and Laura, she was preceded in death by her husband, William.

She is survived by her three sons, William Joseph (of Whitefish, Montana), Mark and his wife Jana (of Alva), and Brock and his wife Kelli (of Oklahoma City); nine grandchildren, Ferran Weese and husband Tyler (of Blackwell), Krishna Woerheide (of Lutsen, Minnesota), Jason Schnebel (of Alva), Jessica Schnebel and husband Justin Rousseau (of Dallas, Texas), Chase Schnebel, Bailey Coleman and husband Jacob, Addison Archer and husband Jacob (all of Oklahoma City) and Jill Schnebel (of Austin, Texas); great-grandchildren, Tanner Weese, Braden Weese and partner Katrina Cochran, Nina Woerheide, Siena Rose Woerheide, Keagan Schnebel, Jennings Schnebel, Nash Coleman, Eli Coleman, Sadie Coleman, Roman Rousseau, Odin Rousseau, Hudson Schnebel, Macy Schnebel, Oliver Archer and Campbell Archer; three great-great=granddaughters, Octavia Rose Weese, Ahsoka and Shakira Woerheide; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
