For the third year, Northwestern Oklahoma State University personnel are welcoming the campus communities in Alva, Enid and Woodward, along with all others in northwest Oklahoma to take part in Kindness Day in Northwest Oklahoma activities scheduled for Nov. 10.
A meeting to bring together members of Northwestern clubs, organizations, classes and individuals who want to take part is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus. Representatives from the communities of Alva and the area are also welcome to attend and be a part of this event.
A Zoom link is available for those wishing to attend but cannot make it to Alva for the meeting. Contact Valarie Case, assistant director of university relations who is the local coordinator for the event, for the link.
This local organizing sub-committee reports to the overall group, United Way of Northwest Oklahoma in Enid, to discuss the possible random acts of kindness that can take place during the week or on the day of Kindness Day.
World Kindness Day is observed each year on Nov. 13, but the local organizers selected Nov. 10 as a day to celebrate in northwest Oklahoma.
This special day was introduced in 1998 to promote kindness throughout the world. It is observed in many other countries including Australia, Canada, India, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.
The United Way of Northwest Oklahoma has been observing this day to promote random acts of kindness in the area since 2015 and brought Northwestern in three years ago.
“We had a great representation of Northwestern clubs, organizations and individuals last year in providing a full day of kindness activities across our campus locations in Alva, Enid and Woodward,” Case said. “Not only did random acts of kindness occur on our campuses, but many activities took place within our various communities thanks to our students, employees and community members.
“We have started making our list of Kindness Day activities to share with the United Way of Northwest Oklahoma, so as soon as you know what you’ll be doing, let me know.”
