A driver was charged with child endangerment following a hit-and-run report to law enforcement.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, at 9:27 p.m. Woods County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Nesseralla responded to a hit-and-run call for the Alva Police Department at Oklahoma Boulevard and Lane Street (US 281 North) in Alva.

Alva Police Officer Jayce Cline called Nesseralla saying the suspect had left the scene and had driven south on Lane Street out of the city limits and into Woods County. Cline requested permission to proceed into the county to conduct his investigation with Officer Taylor Lemon, and permission was granted.

Deputy Nesseralla arrived at the location approximately a mile south of Oklahoma Boulevard where officers Cline and Lemon were talking to the parties involved. Nesseralla talked to Keegan McKee, the driver of a white 1999 Dodge Dakota that was reported to have left the scene of the accident. Also in the vehicle was a 13-year-old juvenile.

According to court documents, while talking with McKee, Nesseralla could smell the odor commonly associated with consumption of intoxicating beverage coming from McKee’s breath. Nesseralla observed an opened 12-pack of Twisted Tea and empty Twisted Tea beer cans in the bed of McKee’s truck as well as an opened bottle of Fireball Whiskey in the bed of the truck.

Nesseralla administered a standardized field sobriety test observing clues. He asked McKee if he would submit to a preliminary breath test, and he agreed. After four tries, McKee could not figure out how to blow into the device. McKee was placed under arrest. At the Woods County Sheriff’s Office, Nesseralla read the implied consent test request to McKee, and he refused.

Keegen Trent McKee, 18, of Fairview, has been charged with child endangerment by permitting the presence in the vehicle when driver is impaired or under the influence, a felony. This crime is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment for up to four years, or both.
