November 5, 2023

ACT I stage veterans and newcomers make up the cast of "Burying the Hatchetts." From left (front row) Gabe Vasquez, Brentney Loewenstein, Isi Ofiu, Christina Jenlink and Kathi Jenlink; (back row) Tracye Quinlan, Mandi Schoenhals and Brickman Bradt.

Alva Community Theatre, Inc., under the direction of Michelle Penner, will present three performances of Whitney Ryan Garrity's Burying the Hatchetts on Nov. 9, 10 and 11 at 8 p.m.

The play is set in late 19th century England. Aspiring stage performer Daphne Prescott (Brentney Loewenstein) and her faithful maid and companion Greta Gump (Tracye Quinlan) are stranded on a deserted road in the English countryside. The ladies soon find themselves guests of the cursed Hatchett House, a creepy old manor with a peculiar history and even more peculiar inhabitants. Their host, Lord Esmond Hatchett (Isi Ofiu), is suspiciously sensitive to light and the rest of the Hatchett family has morbid quirks of their own.

Director Penner said, "We're happy to be back onstage after a brief hiatus. Our talented cast is a combination of ACT I stage veterans and newcomers. Burying the Hatchetts is a comedic thriller, reminiscent of classic 1960s horror films. If you're ready for a good laugh and an evening of suspense and fun, this is the play for you. It has something for everyone."

The cast includes, Brentney Loewenstein as Daphne Prescott, Tracye Quinlan as Greta Gump, Gabe Vasquez as Dr. Miles Mountebank, Mandi Schoenhals as Hannah, Kathi Jenlink as Lady Fiona Hatchett, Isi Ofiu as Lord Esmond Hatchett, Christina Jenlink as Winifred Hatchett and Brickman Bradt as Angus McNealy.

Assistant director and stagehand is Jordan Penner and special production assistance is provided to the directors by Teya Quinlan and August "Gus" Penner.
