Campus and community members will have the opportunity to listen to the faculty of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Reichenberger Department of Fine Arts perform in a recital on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium on the Alva campus. The performance is free and open to the public.

Fine Arts faculty members taking part in the recital include Eric Burger, instructor of instrumental music and director of bands; Thomas Cornell, assistant professor of visual arts; Mickey Jordan, director of technical theatre; Dr. Karsten Longhurst, assistant professor of music and director of choral studies, Dr. Eduardo Moreira, assistant professor of music; Victoria Moreira, adjunct instructor of music; Lawana Newell, instructor of music; Max Ridgway, adjunct instructor of music; and Kimberly Weast, professor of theatre arts and chair of the department.

“The reason behind this faculty recital is to give the students the opportunity to observe their professors performing in a professional setting,” Eduardo Moreira said. “We want them to understand that we are not only professors but qualified professionals in our individual areas of expertise.”

The faculty members will be performing in duos as well as some solo performances with Eduardo Moreira on piano.

The recital will include Burger on trombone with “Sonatine” by Jacques Casterede; Cornell on piano with “4'33” by John Cage; Jordan, who will be assisted by the Theatre Production I Class, with the poem “Alva, oh my Alva” by Jaston Williams and Joe Sears; Longhurst with “A Winter Come (six songs)” by Morten Lauridsen and “Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schon (Magic Flute)” by Wolfgang A. Mozart; Eduardo Moreira on piano with “Mily Balakirev” by Islamey; Victoria Moreira on flute, accompanied by Ridgway on guitar, with “Histoire du Tango” and "Bordel 1900" by Astor Piazzola, "Entr'acte" by Jacques Ibert, as well as on piccolo, accompanied by Eduardo Moreira on piano, with “Sonata” by Amanda Harberg; Newell singing “Und gestern hat er mir Rosen / Waldseligkeit” by Joseph Marx; and Weast singing “Send In The Clowns” by Stephen Sondheim.

“I am looking forward to an evening of performances presented by our talented Reichenberger Department of Fine Arts faculty,” Jordan said. “Talent comes in a variety of forms, and that's what I think I enjoy most about working with everyone in the fine arts. We each bring something unique to the experience.”
