21st annual NWOSU Art Society art show is March 4-29

Thomas Cornell, one of two new art faculty members at Northwestern, prepares entries for display in the 21st annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show that will take place March 4-29 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus.

The 21st annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society Art Show will take place March 4-29 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus and will be open during the library's regular business hours.

Nearly 120 items have been entered into this year's art show with 27 students entering artwork and about 10 non-students, which includes alumni and current/retired employees, entering 27 pieces.

Because of spring break, the library will be closed March 18-20. It will be open March 21-22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed on Saturdays. Viewing is free and open to the public.

"This is one of the more exciting events for me," said Thomas Cornell, assistant professor of visual arts, who is one of the two new professors in the visual arts program. "With the new visual arts major, we have the chance to work with students in the program, but with this show we really get to see the creative spirit that is embodied within the Northwestern community all in one place."

Prize ribbons will be awarded to all students and non-students placing first through third in all categories, along with Best of Show and People's Choice. A $50 cash prize will be awarded to the student winning Best of Show, and the students placing first place in each category will earn $10. Everyone entered in the show is eligible to receive the People's Choice cash prize of $25.

"We want to thank the Student Government Association for co-sponsoring our show again this year and providing us with help funding the show," Archer Bohlen, art society president, said.

All artwork that earns an award in this show will be eligible for the Winners' Show, which is scheduled for April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Runnymede in downtown Alva during its regular First Friday Artwalk events.

Non-winning art from the campus show may be picked up at the library on Monday, April 1, by 5:30 p.m. Artwork from the Winners' Show at the Runnymede may be picked up at the end of that show at 8 p.m. or from Jesse Dunn 326 on Monday, April 8, by 5:30 p.m.
