April's First Friday Art Walk at the Runnymede on April 5 will feature the winning entries from the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society Art Show as well as a workshop teaching basic crocheting skills.

This is the 21st year for the university art show that will close on campus March 29. All winning pieces of art will be displayed on the first level of the Runnymede from 6-8 p.m. free of charge. Light refreshments will be served.

Dr. Mary Riegel, professor of mathematics at Northwestern, and Dr. Jenny Sattler, associate professor of physics, will lead the crochet workshop for beginners where participants will learn or enhance their basic skills such as working in the rounds and in rows. Riegel noted that participants will be using a combination of stitches, pattern/chart reading, making color changes, finishing and more. The workshop will take place on the second floor from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost of the workshop is $15 and is limited to 15 people. Supplies for the workshop will be provided. Those interested in attending the workshop are asked to pre-register by emailing [email protected].

Participants attending the April 5 Basic Crochet Skills workshop at the Runnymede from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. will learn about making a flower much like this one where they will learn to work in rounds and rows.

Members of the Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council continue to discuss ways of growing its membership through its First Friday events and raising funds by offering fun artistic workshops at the Runnymede. As the members continue to meet to make plans for the annual Nescatunga Arts Festival set for May 31 and June 1 at the Alva Recreation Complex, discussion will continue on adding other workshops to the calendar.
