Schubert-Akin finishes 30th consecutive Boston Marathon

April 17, 2024

On Patriot's Day, proud American Jennifer Schubert-Akin carries Old Glory as she crosses the Boston Marathon finish line for the 30th consecutive time Monday. She is a 1975 graduate of Burlington High School and resides in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with her husband Rick.

The weather was ideal for the running of the 128th Boston Marathon. At age 66, Jennifer Schubert-Akin (sister of this reporter) finished the 26.2-mile race. Afterward, the always-determined runner said, "It was hard. It was very warm today." She added, "Another fantastic experience running the Boston Marathon and crossing the finish line for the 30th consecutive year!"

Her finish time was 4:18:11. This placed her 7,309th of the 11,418 women in the race. Of the 26,481 in the race, Jennifer placed 18,468th.

"Thanks to the support of many generous people, we raised $23,000 plus for the National MS Society. Since 1995, the total raised though 'Jennifer's Run to Defeat MS' is approximately $220,000."

She runs to propel MS research to hopefully find a cure and develop more new meds to slow or stop progression of the neurological, debilitating disease. It's affected me, her sister for decades, and now her niece Elizabeth.
