Max and Linda (Phillips) Hofen will soon celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple met while skating at the Avard Rink when Max knocked his future bride off her feet. The past few weekends, Waynoka FFA members have been busy traveling the state to many different jackpots. Makinze Smith traveled to Woodward to show in the Blessed Out West Goat Show on Dec. 2 and 3. The commissioners of Alfalfa County had a lot of paperwork to sort through this week. Nate Ross, Mike Roach and Garret Johnson took care of the usual orders of business – the maintenance and operation warrants for payment and blanket purchase orders – and then spent some time opening up a huge stack of sealed paperwork that came in for six-month bids. Six-month bids were due to be opened Monday for the Woods County Commissioners. Jennifer Schafer attended the meeting with a stack of bid envelopes. As usual, the commissioners passed a motion directing Schafer to open and categorize the bids. She will bring them back to the Wednesday, Dec. 27, meeting for the commissioners’ approval. Carroll L. Devinney was born on October 7, 1940, to H. C. "Pete" Devinney and Edna Devinney in Alva, Oklahoma. He was the younger of two sons and is survived by his brother, Donald Ray Devinney of Liberal, Kansas. Carroll is also survived by his two children, Angela Sue (Bryan) Schenk and Darrin C.
