November 20, 2016

A Waynoka man is accused of stealing a vehicle, colliding with a parked vehicle and then leaving the scene, all without a valid driver’s license.

Dylan M. Knierim, 24, of Waynoka has been charged with a felony of unauthorized use of a vehicle. He’s also facing two misdemeanor charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving damage and driving with license cancelled, suspended, revoked.

The felony is punishable by a fine of $500 to $5,000 or imprisonment for one to five years or both. Leaving the scene is punishable by imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to $500 or both. The driving without a license charge is punishable by imprisonment up to one year and/or a fine of $100-$500.

According to court documents, on Nov. 13 William Blankenship contacted Waynoka Police Officer William Huffman in reference to his step-son Dylan Knierim taking his daughter’s car. The daughter is Dakota Blankenship. The car is described as a silver 2005 Hyundai SSX.

Blankenship said he was contacted by Michael Hommertzheim who said he observed Dylan wreck a car into a parked vehicle, a white 2013 Ford F-250, which was located in the 2000 block of Elm St. in Waynoka.

Blankenship said Dylan was now at home, and he asked Dylan what happened. He said Dylan replied, “I didn’t mean to.”

Officer Huffman took statements from the eyewitness and Blankenship. He located Knierim and read him the Miranda warning. Knierim waived his rights.

Knierim told Huffman he took the vehicle without Dakota’s permission and took it for a ride. He said he wrecked the vehicle, hitting a white pickup. He said he pushed one vehicle out from under the other and left the scene, going back home. When asked for his driver’s license information, Knierim said he was suspended and did not have one.
