Christmas is coming to Alva

An innovative use of fabric transforms lowly hay bales into a gingerbread cottage at Alva Sewing Center and Fabrics & More on the south side of Alva's square.

The hay bales, pumpkins and scarecrows of Fall Fest are giving way to colorful Christmas décor on Alva's downtown square. Though there were some preliminary events following Thanksgiving, the real deal kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 3, with "Christmas Comes to Alva" sponsored by the Alva Area Chamber of Commerce and local merchants.

It all begins at the Alva Fire Department for Breakfast with Santa from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Retail open house events begin at 10 a.m. Those looking for the homemade touch can check out the craft show at the merchants building at the Woods County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to...
