Alva man charged with breaking windows

August 20, 2017

An Alva man accused of breaking windows at a rental house has been charged with a misdemeanor in Woods County.

Dustin Arthur Goodrich, 48, of Alva is charged with malicious injury to property – under $1,000. This misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of up to $500 or imprisonment in the county jail for up to one year, or both.

A neighbor made a report of breaking and entering on Wednesday, July 5, about 9:30 p.m. The neighbor said someone was breaking into a residence at 1019 Oklahoma Blvd. When Woods County Deputy Adam Honeyman and Alva police officers arrived, they discovered multiple windows on the east side of the house were broken and an exterior door was open. Officers checked but found no one inside.

The reporting neighbor next door told Deputy Honeyman he saw a male run from the house to the east shortly before officers arrived. The neighbor was unable to identify the man. Honeyman and Officer Caviness went to the house on the other side of the neighbor’s where they spoke to Goodrich.

They saw Goodrich was dressed in dark clothing including a black long-sleeved sweatshirt while the outside temperature was near 100 degrees. When asked about the incident, Goodrich would not make eye contact, attempted to change the subject and became extremely fidgety.

Honeyman spoked to Douglas Ritter who owns the house at 1019 Oklahoma Blvd. and rents it to Shane Callison. Ritter said the broken windows would be a loss of about $1,000. He said he wished to pursue charges against the person or persons responsible for destroying his property.

Later Honeyman learned from a confidential informant that Goodrich spoke about breaking the windows of the house during discussion about committing a separate crime.

On Aug. 4 at 1 p.m. Honeyman went to Goodrich’s residence and conducted an interview. He told Goodrich he had received credible information that he was the one who broke out the windows and entered the house.

Goodrich said he did not do it but then told Honeyman about Callison taking one of his credit cards to a casino and charging nearly $1,600 without his permission. Honeyman asked if he had reported this to law enforcement, but Goodrich said no. He said he and Callison were no longer friends.

A warrant has been issued for Goodrich’s arrest.
