Shame on me

February 18, 2018

I tell everyone to be sure and vote, and I forgot to vote myself. I thought about it halfway to Woodward for the ball games. The only thing that saves me is I would not have been the swing vote either way.

This was the last JV game this year, and it was a good one. We got beat, but not too bad and the coach cleared the bench for the last two minutes so everyone got to play.

Monday Cleo had a colonoscopy at Enid. It all turned out just fine, which was good news. As we walked to her room, we passed one of my friends sitting in a room. I said hi and he told me his wife was there for minor repairs. In a while, I went back down the hall past her room and she was just getting back from a trip somewhere. When she saw me she got a surprised look and her husband went to grinning. I said hi and kept moving. I ran into the lady's husband Wednesday and he told me the story. He told me that they had been waiting for a long time for the procedure and the nurse said the next person she would see was the doctor. The next person she saw was me and thus the surprised look. When hubby quizzed her she said I was not going to play doctor with her.

Along with a good crowd, Cleo, Justin, Jaylyn (the dancer-actress), and I went to the Alva screening of the short film “Waving Wheat Trilogy” at the Rialto. It was not at all what I had expected. In 15 minutes it tells the story of an addict's release from prison, reunion with her family, the losing battle with drugs and death. The message was very strong and sadly all too real. The dancing and acting were very good. Lance McDaniel and his supporting helpers did a great job. If you did not get to see it, it will be shown at various film festivals around the country and maybe the world. High fives all around for cast, crew, and everyone that donated time, money or support to this special Alva happening.

Seventeen innocent lives were lost this week at a high school in Parkland, Florida. A teenager with an AR 15 automatic weapon opened fire on the kids as they left school. Let's focus and pray for the families of the 17. I hate it when all the attention goes to gun control, the mental state of the shooter and how it could have been avoided. There is plenty of time for these things after the grief is handled. That said, banning guns won't stop the nuts. Remember, a young lady plowed into a crowd a couple of years ago right here in Oklahoma, killing and injuring several people without firing a shot. It may all boil down to the fact that some people needed lots more supervision, spankings and love in the formative years.
