DOROTHEA ELIZABETH HALEY

 


Dorothea Elizabeth Haley, 91 of Emporia, Kansas, died Sunday, June 17, 2018, at the Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia.

Dorothea was born January 2, 1927, in Olpe, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Voeste) Hohne. She was baptized at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe and attended St. Joseph Catholic School for 12 years. Dorothea worked six years at the Army-Navy Store and 11 years at the downtown JC Penney’s store, both in Emporia. She also worked for 18 years in Alva, Oklahoma, for CR Anthony. Dorothea enjoyed quilting, taking communion to the rest home residents in Alva and making scratchers for the church bazaar.

Dorothea married Harold L. Haley on December 31, 1947, in Olpe. They moved to Alva in 1966 where Harold worked for Panhandle Eastern. He died February 19, 2015, in Emporia after 67 years of marriage.

She is survived by a brother Robert Hohne and wife Mary of Three Rivers, California; sisters Marie Markowitz of Olpe, Virginia Pester of Emporia, sister-in-law Mildred Hohne of Largo, Florida; and was blessed to have several nieces and nephews. Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Fred C. “Fritz” Hohne Jr., James Hohne and wife Dorothy and brother-in-laws Joe Markowitz and George Pester.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe, The Rosary will be recited 10 a.m.. Friday, before the Mass. Father John Cordes will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Olpe.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School or St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
