Happy 4th of July to one and all

There are many holiday activities in Alva and all the surrounding towns. If I saw right, the weather is going to be fine for the fourth. There has been enough rain maybe fires will be at a minimum this year. Please be careful and teach the young people to do the same. There are several things that are more fun than burnt fingers.

Here are a couple of thoughts about the holiday and its importance to all of us. On March 17th we all celebrate as if we are Irish. On May 5th we join all Mexicans in celebration. On June 19th we now celebrate with all African-Americans. How about this July 4th we all act like Americans as we celebrate our country’s independence?

This was posted on YouTube below the song "Coming to America" by Neil Diamond. This lady's commentary hits what an American should feel: “I can tell you this, as a Black American Indian person with a little bit of French, I am a proud American and no rioters in this present day America shall ever steal that joy from me. I am grateful to be an American.

“Have traveled many places and can say this, gratitude should be at the top of every American's heart, be they poor or not. I grew up in poverty but not culturally poor. My granny educated me well. She cut the TV off when I was a youngster and had me reading all the hundreds of books around our house.

“For those who are supporting the furor embracing our nation and the riots, I posted my comment to reflect the gratitude I possess for this country, and to reflect how the riots shall never steal my gratitude. May all be blessed.”

Husband: I want you to have this bracelet. It belonged to my grandmother.

Wife: Why does it say "Do not resuscitate?"

Again, Happy Fourth of July!

Let's all be safe out there and God bless one and all.
