I got my first date of 2024 already lined up

January 12, 2024

I mean it's a court date, but it's still a date. I'm dressing up.

Well, I know now I made a big mistake when I went into law enforcement years ago. As City Marshal after all these years I haven't ever gotten a raise. I am still at a dollar a year.

The sheriff's office is accepting applications for a new deputy, and the salary starts at over $40,000 and benefits. I could apply now because I pass all the requirements, with the exception of maybe the good moral character. I am more of a regular character. The other thing is the CLEET Training. Someone said the school lasts six months, and I may not last that long myself. Oh well, I'll still be glad to get the dollar.

There was another job opening in the Newsgram for a grader operator in Alfalfa County. I'd have a better shot at handling that job, because I ran a road patrol for Bud Strawn back in the late ‘60s. Most grader operators do a good job, but once in a great while I have the urge to show the guy how to make a smooth road. Fortunately, the urge passes.

The last job I saw was Beadles Nursing Home who needs activity assistants. That will never do for me, because most of the residents are already more active than me. Back to reality: I'm really only good for about an hour a day, and the best talent I have is feeding cats. All three of these jobs aren't bad, so if you are looking for work, apply, and tell them Jim sent you.

The doctor told Bubba to get an emotional support pet. It's a chicken. It's crispy. It also came with a biscuit.

Let's all be safe out there with this cold weather. Keep warm and God bless.
