  • News flash!

    Jim Scribner|Nov 26, 2023

Santa never has to pay for parking; it is always on the house! I hope you had a good Thanksgiving! Some people are still celebrating today with different families and that is cool. I just hope the weather does not mess them up too much. Jerry and Grace had our family dinner and it was top notch. Cleo's sister Iva and Gary made it for dinner. Their son Kyle has just bought an airplane and was going to fly in but his daughter got sick and he did not make it. Bummer, I wanted to see his plane. Anyh...

  • Can we really move forward when all we do is go backward?

    Dal Houston|Nov 26, 2023

I want to follow up with last week’s article on “two steps forward and one back,” and challenge you to think outside the proverbial box with this question: if all we are doing is objectively moving backward, can we, in fact, find that we are still moving forward? There was a low point in my life, in my mid-20s, when everything I did resulted in what seemed like a backward step in life. It seemed everything I did that had previously resulted in a positive outcome was now working in rever...

  • CoffeeTime

    Andy and Renie Bowman|Nov 26, 2023

It’s a faraway country, a poverty-stricken area with hard-working citizens, who don’t have much chance to see things change for the better. My hero rides his Honda into their part of his world every day, to deliver help and hope, to teach them that their God truly loves them. That He isn’t mad at them, no matter how badly they have disappointed their Creator. That He wants them to turn to Him in faith and trust. That He will help them live life, even in the midst of their difficult circu...

  • Treasurer criticizes pension system for taking exemption his office exercised

    Paul Monies|Nov 26, 2023

Oklahoma Treasurer Todd Russ has publicly criticized one of the state’s largest pension funds for taking an exemption to a new law forbidding state pension funds from doing business with financial companies perceived to be hostile to the oil and gas industry. But Russ has quietly taken an exemption to the law when it comes to investments managed by his own office. The treasurer’s office exercised one for services from Bank of America and is negotiating with JP Morgan Chase on another exemption. Both companies are among six Russ placed on a lis...

CARRINGTON, N.D. – It’s crazy how things work out. Take Bridger Anderson as an example. He had competed all year and was inching closer to a second National Finals Rodeo qualification. Nov 26, 2023

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis went to the hospital Saturday for tests after he came down with the flu, but the results ruled out any respiratory problems, the Vatican said. Francis, who had part of one lung removed as a young man, underwent a CAT scan, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said. The test at Rome's Gemelli hospital, where Francis was treated for a respiratory infection earlier this year, was done to rule out any possible respiratory problems and came back negative, Bruni said in a statement. Earlier Saturday, the Vatican said the pope h...

The defense official, who...

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — For the annual fall renewal of her shaman spirit, Mee Vang Yang will soon ritually redecorate the tall altar in her living room where she keeps her father's ring-shaped shaman bells. She carried them across the Mekong River as the family fled the Communist takeover of her native Laos four decades ago. Today, they facilitate the connection to the spiritual world she needs to help fellow refugees and their American-raised children who seek restoration of lost spirits. "Like going to church, you're giving beyond yourself to...

  • The debate over Ukraine aid was already complicated. Then it became tangled up in US border security

    LISA MASCARO|Nov 26, 2023

WASHINGTON (AP) — As war and winter collide, a top adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged during a recent visit to Washington that the days ahead "will be tough" as his country battles Russia while U.S. support from Congress hangs in the balance. President Joe Biden's nearly $106 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and other needs sits idle in Congress, neither approved nor rejected, but subjected to new political demands from Republicans who are insisting on U.S.-Mexico border policy changes to halt the flow of mig...
