We recently came to the end of studying the book of the prophet Ezekiel several weeks ago in our adult Bible class. I asked the group what we should study next, and a resounding request to study the book of Job was their reply. I was quite surprised by this request as the book of Job describes his sorrow and struggles with both his friends and the Lord Almighty himself! As we finish up this week on the Beatitudes, we find that the last one is a little lengthier in description than the previous ones. One reason might be because, as the Christian lives out these calls to be Christ like, the world rejects any teaching that is tied to the son of God. During this Lenten season, we must remind ourselves that this season is about much more than doing things out of duty. We can fast, we can give and we can give up things for Lent. I want us to place that aside to look at ourselves for a moment. How is your relationship with God? Do you spend enough time with Him? We all have both good things and bad things that happen in our lives. Sometimes the bad things seem to come a little more often, and in sequences of two to three happenings at a time. It could be as severe as losing our job or a loved one, or it might be as simple as dropping some jewelry or some other small object, like loose change, in between the unforgiving cushions of the couch, where they will be hidden away for years to come. It’s so intriguing how the scriptures in the Bible fit together so well, especially when it comes to the teachings of God.
