I think I'm going to start studying for my final exams just in case all the heat and fires are because God has had all the fun he can stand with our corrupt, wicked world. Sometimes the simplest way isn't the best way. Someone lost a round bale of hay on Santa Fe Street, and it was spread out pretty good. They had a tractor getting the big part, but two fellas were using pitchforks on the rest. Wanting to help, I stopped and suggested it might be easier to bring the cows to the hay than picking...
Google and Facebook have enormous economic and political power in society – especially over the news industry. Many ask if they have played a role in the misinformation that erodes our free press and plagues our democracy. Google and Facebook have a duopoly of the distribution of digital news content, which drives people to their platforms where they make money. The platforms hoard critical data and use clever tactics, like reframing stories in rich previews, to keep users on their sites – sip...
Like so many of us, I have a lot of my family and friends’ birthdates in my phone’s calendar, and I have it set to notify me when a loved one’s birthday is on the horizon. I prefer to tell myself that “I have so many family members now, and combined with all my friends, I can’t possibly remember all those birthdates anymore.” But truthfully, I’m probably just getting too lazy and too dependent upon my phone reminding me. I tend to take the easy way out when it is available. Recently, it...

Republican legislators passed a law lowering taxes for businesses, but critics say it comes at the expense of jobless Oklahomans. The law, which passed along party lines in both the House and the Senate, cuts the maximum number of weeks that unemployed Oklahomans can receive financial support from 26 to 16 starting Jan. 1. Right now, Oklahoma offers the same number of weeks in unemployment benefits as 40 other states. But when House Bill 1933 takes effect, only four states will offer fewer weeks of emergency income to those looking for a job....

Summertime equals aphid season for Oklahoma producers, but Oklahoma State University Ag Research and Extension specialists are here to help. Although many of today’s crop varieties are resistant to sugarcane aphids, it’s still important to keep an eye out for these little green sorghum lovers. Tom Royer, OSU integrated pest management coordinator, said the best way to combat aphids is to use the Glance-N-Go app developed by OSU scientists several years ago. On a balmy Wednesday morning, at the tail-end of a whirlwind stop in Alva, former Congress member Kendra Horn sat talking with the Review-Courier over a leisurely open-air breakfast behind The Vanilla Bean. Her press agent kept a close eye on her phone, and a niece chattered happily about all the cats she'd discovered wandering or stalking or sleeping in their shiny collars. She begged a piece of bacon from Aunt Kendra, who was willing to part with the savory tidbit until she discovered it was... Full story
