For the first time in history, the annual Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English (OKCTE) fall conference will be held at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva on Friday, Oct. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. It seems like a setback for the residents along the 700 and 800 blocks of Locust Street. During their meeting Monday, Oct. 16, the Alva Utility Authority rejected the bids to replace and relocate water lines in those blocks. Street paving was removed in the 700 block but it was discovered the water lines under the street needed replacement. The collision occurred at 4:40 p.m. at County Road Grady and County Road 970, which is 5.4 miles east and three miles north of Pond Creek. A Carmen woman is facing Woods County charges of hunting without a license, possessing illegal game, and making false statements at a check station. Dr. Callie Mosburg was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Alva Hospital Authority during the Alva City Council meeting Monday. Her term will expire in October 2024. Previously Jay Randels held the trustee position, but he resigned before his term ended. In a brief meeting Wednesday, the Alva Tourism Committee approved funding for Bull Battle VIII to be held in Alva next year.
